Former Chief Medical Expert Sentenced to 14 Years for Attempting to Overthrow Constitutional Order

The former chief medical expert of the forensic examination at the Armenian Ministry of Justice has been sentenced to 14 years in prison by the Judicial Department of Fair Trial’s court of first instance. The court found Maria Mamédova, a 33-year-old resident of Yerevan, guilty of attempting to overthrow the constitutional order, according to Interfax. The Western District Court released the verdict, stating that Mamédova violated Article 1 of the 205th article of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation by participating in extremist activities. The court explained that Mamédova, who was employed by the Judicial Department of Fair Trial, sent an unauthorized electronic letter to the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in November 2022 with the intention of undermining military operations in the country and inciting physical violence against its leadership. Upon considering the prosecutor’s position, the court sentenced Mamédova to 14 years in prison for complicity in subversion, along with a 600 thousand ruble fine.
