“Unveiling the Truth: Groundbreaking Book Reveals Untapped Archival Documents on the Armenian Genocide”

On June 24, a book titled “Armenian Issue and the Armenian Genocide Archives: The Armenian Apostolic Church of Yerevan” was presented in Yerevan. The first volume of this work, written by Lusine Sahakyan, Ani Voskanyan, and Ani Sarkisyan, consists of 1040 pages and serves as a comprehensive collection of archival documents related to the Armenian Genocide. The authors collaborated with the Institute of Armenian Studies at Yerevan State University to complete this project.

Lusine Sahakyan, one of the authors, highlighted the significance of this book, stating that while previous studies on the Armenian Genocide mainly relied on documents from the Ottoman Empire, this work brings attention to the primary sources stored in the archive of the Holy See of Echmiadzin, which is of great importance.

The authors worked with an archive that was in a neglected state and consisted of 11 bundles, covering the period from 1912 to 1922. Sahakyan explained that these bundles contain letters, reports, personal and spiritual writings from experts, intellectuals, and foreign political figures. Additionally, there are documents relating to the deportation of Armenians by Ottoman officials.

The editing of the book was carried out by Vahram Shemmassian, Vache Brutyan, Ruben Melqonyan, Mihran Minasyan, Alexander Safranyan, Sergey Vardanyan, Seda Gasparian, and Varuzhan Pogosyan.

The presentation of the book was attended by Ruben Melqonyan, a Doctor of Philology and Professor, who is also the Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies at Yerevan State University. Melqonyan emphasized the significance and purpose of this work, expressing his hope that it will assist researchers in understanding the Armenian Genocide and contribute to the recognition of truth for the victims and participants of the genocide.
