“Former Artsakh Prime Minister Exposes Unfair Prosecution of Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh: Urgent Action Required”

The actions of Armenian Armed Forces generals in Nagorno-Karabakh, particularly their activities in Vagif Khachatryan’s office and other areas, where people were unjustly prosecuted in court with false charges and subjected to violence, are still pending. There have been several recently publicized violent incidents in Azerbaijan based on numerous criminal activities. Former Prime Minister of Artsakh and former Chief of MIAP, Artak Beglaryan, revealed this information during an interview with NEWS.am. He expressed concern for the safety of some individuals, while others remain free due to political reasons. The military leadership is awaiting further developments, and it is uncertain what the outcome will be. Beglaryan emphasized the need for them to return to their homeland and highlighted the numerous reports of persecution. The case of Ruben Vardanyan, who went on a hunger strike for 20-21 days without proper evaluation or medical treatment, stands out among them. Beglaryan’s legal team has vowed to stay by his side and resist attempts to isolate him. Although hunger strikes are not uncommon, the lack of appropriate action in this case is concerning. Beglaryan mentioned the absence of specific mechanisms for dealing with such situations, particularly when Azerbaijanis are detained in Armenia. He suggested the need for international mechanisms, both political and informational, to be utilized.

During his visit to Zangezur at the end of April, Beglaryan participated in events related to military operations in Azerbaijan’s bases. He represented the Republic of Armenia and provided details about the operations and the psychological state of the detainees. He particularly highlighted the danger to Ruben Vardanyan’s life during his hunger strike. Beglaryan acknowledged the oversight and protection provided by the committee on detainees but mentioned the restrictions imposed by Azerbaijan’s authorities, preventing physical visits to the detainees.

Beglaryan concluded that Azerbaijan intentionally refrained from making this report public due to its potential impact on their territorial and military-population policies, as well as its alignment with the interests of other countries and institutions.
