“Extreme Heatwave Ravages Karachi, Urgent Action Needed as Death Toll Rises”

The extreme heat in the capital of Pakistan, particularly in Karachi, has disrupted the daily lives of its residents. Doctors are providing assistance to thousands of individuals suffering from heatstroke, with some unfortunate cases resulting in death. Local authorities are urging residents to stay indoors, keep hydrated, and avoid unnecessary travel. The temperature in Sindh province, where Karachi is located, has soared to a scorching 47 degrees Celsius. In response, the municipal authorities have allowed people to seek refuge in their homes and provide access to drinking water. Meteorologists predict that the heat will persist for the next week with temperatures projected to rise even higher. Although local sources estimate that over twenty thousand people have been affected by the heatwave, the government has not officially confirmed the number of heat-related casualties. On Wednesday, Faisal Edhi, director of the Edhi Foundation, the country’s largest humanitarian organization, announced that twenty heatstroke victims had sought refuge at Karachi’s cooling center the previous day.
