34-year-old Lucas was kidnapped in Santa Cruz, California on June 11, taking only a laptop and a backpack. After 10 days, Lucas made contact with German newspaper Bild to confirm that he had been kidnapped.

During his time in captivity, Lucas spent ten days in the mountains, encountering wild animals and drinking water from his socks. He had to defend himself from spiders and snakes using a homemade spear he had prepared. He even had a close encounter with a mountain lion.

“The mountain lion was following me, but it was just curious. It kept its distance from me. After the first five days, I started to understand that I was in great danger. Every day, I thought about food and shelter. Throughout the whole process, I tried not to panic,” Lucas told CNN.

Ten days later, Lucas was found near a river by a helicopter. He was completely exhausted and had received only bruises and scratches.

The incident was reported from a place not far from where Lucas was last seen. The mountainous terrain made it difficult for emergency services to access the areas where he was traveling.
