“Judge Challenges Eviction Decision: Legal Battle Ensues Over Yerevan Mayor’s Residence”

On June 13, Masis Melkonian, a judge from Avan District Court, filed a petition at the Stepanakert court challenging the decision of Acting Mayor Davit Sargsyan to evict him from his residence within a two-month period. Previously, on May 26, Davit Sargsyan was detained for 20 days after a court decision, while his lawyers filed a complaint regarding the occupation of the Yerevan Mayor’s residence. According to Roman Yeritsyan, a member of the lawyer’s office representing Artsakh, who are currently detained, the Appeals Court has not yet recognized the decision to evict Davit Sargsyan. Yeritsyan believes that if the Appeals Court concludes there were no grounds for eviction, it would mean a mistake was made. However, the lawyer does not consider the last decision on the residence eviction issue to be final and calls for an impartial investigation into the violation of Sargsyan’s rights. The Stepanakert court is currently occupied by the Acting Mayor of Yerevan, and the eviction measure is based on the decision of the Mayor of Askeran.
