“Mercedes-Benz Introduces New Automatic Lane Change Function for European Market”

Mercedes-Benz has introduced its new car equipped with an Automatic Lane Change function, which will be available in 33 European countries. This system operates at speeds ranging from 80 to 140 kilometers per hour, but only on specific highway sections. The vehicle’s electronics command the car to change lanes for overtaking and then return to its original lane once the maneuver is complete. This information was reported by motor.ru.

The Automatic Lane Change function will be integrated into 15 Mercedes-Benz models and will be accessible to owners of C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, GLC, CLE, EQE, EQS, EQS SUV, and EQE SUV starting September. This means nearly 200,000 Mercedes-Benz cars will be able to use this feature.

To utilize the Automatic Lane Change function, two active assistants are required: Active Steering Assist and Active Distance Assist Distronic. Using these assistants, the car’s electronics can independently change lanes for overtaking. Additionally, if the driver is using navigation, the vehicle will position itself in the desired lane. However, it’s important to note that this feature is only available on certain highway sections and at speeds between 80 and 140 kilometers per hour.

It’s crucial to understand that this is not a fully autonomous driving mode, but rather a Level 2 system. Therefore, the driver must always remain focused on the road and continue to drive manually.

In Germany and the US, Mercedes-Benz has received certification for its Level 3 autonomous driving system. However, specific conditions must be met in order to use this system. These conditions include light traffic, speeds not exceeding 64 kilometers per hour, no nearby interchange exits, good lighting, and favorable weather conditions. The system relies on data from the driver’s sensory input to provide assistance. Furthermore, German users will soon have access to other autonomous driving systems, such as the one developed by Chinese company Momenta, in upcoming Mercedes-Benz models.
