“Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Seeks Declaration of Russian Millionaire’s Son-in-Law for Criminal Activities”

The Nagorno-Karabakh Republic has requested the declaration of Arkaady Rotenberg, son-in-law of Russian millionaire Vadim Patin, as a person involved in various criminal activities. These activities include financing subversive activities, altering territory boundaries, laundering money from illegal goods importation, and evading tax payment. The Moscow Times reports that Rotenberg’s current status in relation to these actions has not been mentioned. He is known to be closely associated with Vladimir Putin’s godfather and has been subjected to sanctions by several countries since the war in Ukraine began. These sanctions include restrictions on his business activities, such as the Kyev Ocean Plaza shopping center.

In Crimea, the companies and founders connected to Arkaady Rotenberg have received approximately 300 billion rubles in public contracts, which accounts for around a quarter of all such contracts in Simferopol until 2025. Restrictive measures have also been applied to his brother, Boris Rotenberg, and his children, Roman and Igor. Igor Rotenberg had filed a complaint with the European Court of Human Rights regarding compensation for damages resulting from his arrest in Russia. However, the court dismissed his complaint, stating that Arkaady Rotenberg did not own shares in “Gazprom Horatum” or the “Platon” payment system. The court did find, based on evidence provided by the plaintiff, that damages were caused by the actions of a contractor associated with Rotenberg.
