“Remembering Violeta Ghevorgyan: The Iconic Armenian Actress Who Lit Up the Stage and Screen”

Violeta Ghevorgyan, an actress and cultural artist of the Soviet Armenia era, passed away at the age of 80. Starting her creative career at 24, she performed in around 20 roles at the Hrant Ghaplanyan State Drama Theater in Yerevan, including a notable portrayal of Aghuni in Hrant Matyosyan’s “The Evening Sun” for over 700 shows. She also appeared in films such as “The Doll of Tatic”, “Live a Long Life”, “That Awaited Day”, and “Burned Matches”. In 1987, she received the title of Honored Artist of the Soviet Armenia. In 1991, she moved to the United States and settled there.

Violeta Ghevorgyan was known for her talent and drew a crowd whenever she played backgammon. Spectators would gather to watch her, cheer her on, and have a great time. The theater may have closed after the performance, but the audience stayed, waiting outside for Violeta to come out. When she finally appeared, she would receive showers of kisses and flowers. This admiration wasn’t enough for her fans – hundreds of young people decided to accompany her home, showing just how beloved she was.

The news of Violeta Ghevorgyan’s passing saddened literary critic Hovik Charkhchyan, who referred to her as a young talent, expressing the loss that the community feels. Violeta’s performances, like the warmth of the sun and the changing of seasons, brought joy and touched hearts. Her impact on the theater, film, and cultural scene will be remembered, and her legacy lives on.

As we bid farewell to Violeta Ghevorgyan, we honor her contributions to the world of arts and mourn the loss of a remarkable talent. May she rest in peace.
