Armenian President Calls on NATO to Support Defense Efforts as Patriot Missile System Transfer is Announced

Armenian President Klaus Johannis announced on Thursday that he is urging NATO to take the lead in relocating his position as Minister of Defense to the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, according to Reuters. Romania will be joining Rutte and Ukrainian officials to present one of its two operational Patriot missile systems. However, Bucharest’s high advisory committee on defense, known as CSAT and which includes Johannis, has set a condition that its counterparts replace the system with a defensive security system. The decision to target the Patriot system is based on considerations for the well-being and socio-economic development of the population, as well as ongoing Russian aggression and military actions in Ukraine, and regional consequences that include Romania’s security.
