Ruben Vardanyan Resigns from Russian Development Agency, Spurring Speculation

Ruben Vardanyan’s resignation from the Russian Development Agency has been made public, according to Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. This announcement was made during Zakharova’s weekly press briefing in response to a question about whether Russia would grant Vardanyan permission to leave the country freely. Zakharova mentioned that she was not aware of Vardanyan’s involvement in the Armenian-Azerbaijani hostilities during her time, and requested more information on the matter. She also clarified that any questions regarding Vardanyan should be directed to Baku and Yerevan, as he had publicly resigned from the Russian Development Agency. Zakharova emphasized that the Russian Government has always supported agreements that involve the voluntary participation of all interested parties.

In September 2022, Ruben Vardanyan was appointed as the Prime Minister of Mountainous Karabakh, and on November 4, he was honored with a state award. However, on February 23, 2023, he was relieved of his position, but remained in Mountainous Karabakh until September 2023. On September 27, he sustained injuries and is currently in Baku, residing in the official residence of the Prime Minister of Mountainous Karabakh along with political and military officials.
