Wealthy British Family Arrested in Switzerland for Tax Evasion and Alleged Human Trafficking: BBC Report

Four members of a wealthy British family have been arrested in Switzerland on charges of tax evasion. According to the BBC, the family is accused of prioritizing the purchase of luxury items over their children’s education.

The Hinduja family, who reside in the affluent Chelsea district of London, has an estimated wealth of £37 million ($47 million). They are alleged to be engaged in human trafficking and importing luxury items from India to evade taxes.

Prakash and Kamal Hinduja, along with their children Ajay and Namrata, are believed to have submitted false documents to their employees. These employees were reportedly paid a minimal wage of $8 per day for an 18-hour work day, and were not given the freedom to leave their homes.

Last week, it was revealed that the financial agreement for the family’s business was tied to human trafficking, suggesting their ongoing involvement in illegal activities in Switzerland. Human trafficking is considered a serious criminal offense in the country.

Members of the Hinduja family deny all the allegations. However, this week a prominent judge in Geneva, Eve Berthoson, has requested a payment of $10,000 as evidence that the family spent more on their children’s education than on luxury items.

The Hinduja family’s lawyers have failed to justify the low wages of their employees. They argue that the labor conditions should be taken into account, claiming that the employees were provided with accommodation and food. However, evidence of labor exploitation has been found, as one employee admitted that watching a film with their children during off-hours was not considered work. Additionally, one employee was paid wages even when outside their home without permission.

Bertosan is demanding compensation and millions of dollars in unpaid legal expenses, as well as the salaries of her lawyers.
