“Ombudsman’s Office Statement Raises Concerns of Invalidity: National Assembly Session in Question”

The Ombudsman’s office has stated that they will not attend today’s National Assembly session, arguing that it would not be in accordance with the established procedure. They argue that the Law on Human Rights grants them the right to attend sessions, and that the majority cannot prevent this. According to Deputy Chief of the PAP, Leon Zourabian, if the rights of the Ombudsman are being violated, it means that the session of the National Assembly is not valid and that the interpretation of the law on human rights holds no value. He states that the PAP’s decision aligns with this interpretation of the law.

Zourabian also notes that if the PAP had mentioned this interpretation of the law, it should have been presented at the session. The session of the National Assembly is scheduled for June 17 at 18:30, where the “Formation of the Government’s Legislative and New Legislative Committee” will be discussed. However, opposition group “City in Unity” has announced that they will not participate in this session, as they believe the interpretation of the law is ambiguous and does not comply with the legal procedures of the Republic of Armenia. They argue that the session cannot be held without their participation, even if the interpretation holds power, due to the lack of a quorum.
