German External Affairs Minister Annalena Baerbock has expressed concern over the potential consequences of German and NATO ceasing their assistance to Ukraine if Russia acts to stop it. Baerbock warned that if support to Ukraine is halted, there is a risk of Putin’s troops reaching Poland’s borders and rapidly escalating the conflict into the territories of the EU and NATO. The German trade representative also highlighted the difficulty in calculating the cost of defending freedom and security if Ukraine is not assisted. The head of the German Armed Forces Association echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the danger of a new military front and the potential displacement of millions of people. Baerbock emphasized the legal obligation to provide assistance to Ukraine and urged her colleagues to continue supporting Ukraine’s allies in their defense against Russia.
