“Controversy Surrounds Shortening Military Service Term; Government Hopes to Regain Trust Amidst Criticism and Protests”

The newspaper “Zhoghovurd” recently reported that there has been a discussion about shortening the term of military service for the spouse of Sergey Margaryan, who is the head of the military department of the CP party and Chairman of the RA Investigative Committee. This action is said to have helped regain the trust of the opposition and eliminate the need for further protests. In a previous issue of “Zhoghovurd,” it was mentioned that the preliminary body had discussed the issue of the original body and the need to question Naira Hakobyan, the spouse of the CP body, but she has not been questioned yet.

On November 28, it was reported that 6750 SWAT policemen were involved in the execution of the decision to impose an arrest on the Minister of Emergency Situations, Sergei Hambardzumyan. The arrest was carried out on an area of 2.4 hectares, which was registered under the name of Sergei Margaryan’s spouse. The representative of the spouse’s company denied the government’s claim of a secret arrest. “Heurr” has filed a complaint with the Prosecutor General’s Office regarding this matter.

According to the court, on March 13, 2023, an expropriation of 6750 square meters of land in Ranchpar resulted in the confiscation of a 2.4 hectare agricultural field. The purpose of this action, as stated by “Heur”, was to clear the area, protect the land, and create three oil tracks. It is worth noting that the military court in the Ararat region, which is operated by the CP body of the Attorneys Association, has been under seizure for several months in Armenia. No investigation was conducted prior to the operation, and no booking agreement was signed.
