“Azerbaijan Aims to Restore Connection with Armenia, Says Seyran Ohanyan as Tensions Rise”

During a meeting of the Homeland party on June 15th, Seyran Ohanyan, the head of the “Araratian Army” faction, made it clear that Adrbedjan does not seek conflict with Armenia. He emphasized that Azerbaijan aims to restore its connection with Armenia through the Tavush border. Ohanyan also reminded everyone that according to international norms, demarcation should not lead to new claims and tensions. Furthermore, he mentioned that a meeting was recently held on the military commission’s agenda of the trilateral statement. Ohanyan expressed that removing the Armenian peacekeepers could facilitate success in international processes and called for support of the “Nation-Armenian Unity” movement to strengthen consolidated unity. He emphasized the importance of territorial occupation for the country’s security, noting that Armenia has an obligation to prevent any harm to the Armenians in Artsakh. Ohanyan mentioned that the situation unexpectedly changed in November 2020, leading to tense internal negotiations. He concluded by stating that both internal and external security guarantees are crucial and that new negotiations should be constructed rather than focusing on existing disagreements between international partners.
