“73-Year-Old Protester Charged with Hooliganism After Being Injured During Baghramyan Avenue Protests”

73-year-old Tigran Saribekian, who was injured during the Baghramyan Avenue protests, has been charged with hooliganism, according to lawyer Ruben Melikyan. During a press conference on June 15, Melikyan stated that on June 12, Saribekian was injured by a special means used on Baghramyan Avenue, as confirmed by video evidence. The footage shows that Saribekian was hit with a stone on his leg, struck with a baton, and pushed forward. Saribekian testified that he was attacked prior to the intervention of the red berets, thrown into the river, and beaten. Instead of receiving medical assistance, his hands were tied and he was taken to the police station. The lawyer also clarified that there was misleading information in the morning publication which reported 11 arrests during the incident, explaining that only three people were taken away.

The incident on Baghramyan Avenue on June 12 involved a large number of law enforcement officers who used force against the participants. Electric shock batons were used, resulting in numerous injuries and a person losing a finger. Journalists were also harmed, with the NEWS.am operator sustaining a foot injury due to the use of electric shock batons. According to the Ministry of Health, a total of 101 civilian and police personnel sought medical assistance as a result of the events on Baghramyan Avenue.
