“Minister of Healthcare Provides Update on Baghramyan Square Protests: 8 Still Hospitalized, Including Amputee, as Inquiries into Excessive Force Continue”

Following the events in Baghramyan Square, eight injured individuals are currently still hospitalized. This was mentioned by the Minister of Healthcare, Anahit Avanesyan, during a press conference on June 14 after a government session.

“The city resident, who had three limbs amputated, is in a satisfactory condition. The surgery was successful, and the individual is receiving appropriate treatment. The others will be discharged soon,” she stated.

When asked about the actions taken by the authorities that led to the injuries, one of the injured individuals noted, “We, the injured, do not have a head injury.”

In response to how the city residents will accept the Minister, Avanesyan replied, “Over the past three years, I have been well-received by everyone.”

The Minister emphasized that the actions carried out by the authorities on that day were proportionate and aimed at maintaining public order.

Earlier, NEWS.am reported that during the gathering on July 12 at Baghramyan Square, a large number of healthcare workers used force against the participants. The authorities used special sound grenades, resulting in various injuries including one protester losing an eye. Journalists were also injured, and the NEWS.am operator received foot injuries due to the use of sound grenades.

According to information provided by healthcare authorities, a total of 101 civilians and police officers sought medical treatment as a result of the events in Baghramyan Square.
