Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of Armenia, Zhan Andriasian, Makes A Guest Appearance at 20th Khachaturian International Competition

The Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia, Zhan Andriasian, participated in the 20th International Competition named after Khachaturian as a guest artist. The competition was held this year in the “Jukebox” format.

The winners of the 20th Khachaturian International Competition have received certificates of recognition, according to NEWS.am. The award ceremony was held alongside the competition.

This year’s first prize went to Tomotaka Sekine from Japan, while the second prize was awarded to Sergey Mkrtchyan from Russia, and the third prize went to Rio Arai from Japan.

The first prize recipient received $10,000 and will have the opportunity to perform a concert with a symphony orchestra in the 2025-26 concert season. They were also awarded a bow from Haffnerbows collection. Additionally, they received a special prize in the form of a plaque from “Fine Violin” collection by Esther Hauffner, a jury member of the 20th Khachaturian International Competition.

The second prize recipient received $5,000 and will have the opportunity to perform a concert sponsored by the Laureate Concert Group within two years. They were also awarded a replica of the Strad ex-Huberman (1713) violin.

The third prize recipient received $3,000 and will have the opportunity to perform in a major concert with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra during the 2024-2025 concert season.

Special prizes were also awarded.

The Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia, Zhan Andriasian, congratulated the participants and winners of the competition. He expressed his satisfaction with the high level of participation and achievement that the Khachaturian competition has reached over the years. He acknowledged the organizers and emphasized the continuous improvement of quality and standards in the competition. He expressed his hope that the winners will continue to achieve great success in music academies and institutions worldwide. He further emphasized the 20th edition of the competition and Armenia’s joy in having such a high-quality and prestigious event. He concluded by stating his confidence in the winners’ success in the world’s most prestigious music institutions.

Following the award ceremony, the first prize recipient, Tomotaka Sekine, performed Aram Khachaturian’s Concerto with the State Youth Orchestra of Armenia under the direction of Maestro Zohrab Tadevosyan.

The Khachaturian International Competition is held with the support of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia. The competition is organized by the “Aram Khachaturian” Cultural Foundation of Yerevan and is a member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions (WFIMC), operating according to the federation’s established rules.
