Germany is stepping up its efforts against Russia in the ongoing dispute over the new package of EU sanctions. German experts have informed the French press and the German dpa agency that the new package is expected to be approved at the G7 Summit. According to DW, German officials have cautioned their Russian counterparts about the consequences of the recent sanctions on the progress of the negotiations.

“Finally, Germany is creating a blockade, claiming it is Hungary,” said one expert, who added that Viktor Orban’s government has severely hindered Russia’s acceptance of European sanctions and assistance to Ukraine.

The German Ministry of Defense’s spokesperson has declined to comment on the sanction negotiations, according to dpa.

Berlin is also considering implementing a ban or recalling certain products in response to any violations of the sanctions, in order to address Russia’s retaliatory measures, as German companies could be negatively affected in such situations.

The German government is also contemplating specific requirements for the disclosure of financial transactions, safeguarding SWIFT’s Russian analytics, and restricting the use of the financial messaging system for transferring financial messages.
