“Violence Erupts during Protest in Yerevan: 101 Victims and Counting”

Violent incidents occurred during the protest in the Khachmeruk neighborhood of Yerevan on June 12, 2024, as reported by NEWS.am. The main leadership of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia (RA) has taken note of the article’s 1st section, referencing the 327th article of the RA Constitutional Law.

A special committee has been formed to carry out effective, comprehensive, and timely measures. The investigation of these violent incidents revealed that a group of protesters did not comply with public order and special security measures. They attempted to provoke law enforcement officers, throwing stones, objects, and bottles filled with flammable substances, endangering the officers’ life and health. Witnesses reported aggression from the protesters towards law enforcement, resulting in damage to public property and financial losses.

A total of 101 individuals, including 18 law enforcement officials directly involved in protecting public order, have been identified as victims. The scene of the incidents revealed the presence of numerous weapons such as stones, molotov cocktails, bottles, slingshots, projectiles, and arrows.

The investigation of these violent incidents and the violation of public order, as well as the actions of law enforcement, have been accompanied by widespread clashes. Efforts are underway to identify those involved, assess their individual responsibilities, and apply legal measures accordingly to restore order.
