The civil society organization, “Hayakv,” has filed a lawsuit against the former mayor of Baghramyan-Demirchyan district for the illegal use of excessive force by law enforcement officers during a protest by activists. Ten demonstrators have sustained physical injuries, some of whom have been hospitalized, according to a statement released by “Hayakv.” The organization emphasizes the need to clarify who gave the order for the use of excessive force and under what circumstances it was used. They also question why such methods resulted in serious consequences.

In order to ensure justice, a special group has been established in Armenia to conduct an independent investigation into the incident. This group is focused on identifying and punishing those responsible. They are utilizing surveillance footage and multiple photographs as evidence, which clearly reveal the brutal treatment and abuse of the demonstrators. These visuals showcase the use of special vehicles, firearms, and the presence of media representatives and journalists documenting the violence. In addition, the group reports the use of tear gas and other aggressive measures against the demonstrators.

We demand a fair investigation into all instances of excessive force used by law enforcement officers, and we also expect the same level of engagement and response from international organizations.

The trial against the police officers involved in the violence against the demonstrators is under the personal supervision of Chief Justice Aram Ohanian. It is crucial that he ensures a fair trial takes place and that those responsible for the unethical and illegal actions are held accountable.
