Armenia’s Shocking Withdrawal: Prime Minister’s Intentions Revealed

Armenia’s decision to withdraw from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) agreement on collective security is significant, according to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. During a meeting with the Russian Ambassador to Armenia, Pashinyan stated that he is considering his options. He acknowledged that the question of withdrawal can be discussed, referring to how it was made in 2018 by the will of the government, or as it has started to be implemented in 2022. Official statements regarding Armenia’s decision on the organization’s leadership also mention the year 2022. It is evident that Pashinyan’s intention to withdraw from the CSTO agreement was clear from the beginning. This decision is closely linked to the armed conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, which Pashinyan openly supported. Russia, as a member of the treaty, responded to the Karabakh forces. According to Zatulin, Russia has made efforts to maintain cooperation without attracting attention.
