“Armenian Government Approves Plan for Enhanced Aviation Security and Infrastructure Upgrades”

The Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure and the Committee for Urban Development and Architecture have collaborated on a proposal to enhance and develop urban management and infrastructure, as outlined in decision No. 944-N of May 27, 2004. This project aligns with the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) requirements stated in Annex 17 “Aviation Security,” which pertains to aviation security measures and procedures.

Efficient airport entry point inspections are conducted using biometric equipment, while baggage screening is performed with the assistance of the Rapiscan MVXR 5000 device. This system yields a 70% accuracy rate in detecting prohibited items and a 30% accuracy rate in identifying repetitive screening and visual inspection systems.

Looking ahead to the years 2022-2023, an increased volume of passenger transfers necessitates the introduction of new technologies and innovative operations. This includes incorporating new biometric equipment and the Rapiscan RTT110 device, which boasts a 98% accuracy rate in identifying baggage. The remaining 2% of items will be addressed during a later phase, utilizing the device’s automated screening and visual inspection systems, thereby ensuring compliance with ICAO standards.

Approval of this decision by the Government of the Republic of Armenia will facilitate the implementation and utilization of new technologies, enhancing aviation security, baggage handling processes, and overall safety at airports. Unfortunately, there is currently a lack of additional financial resources and budgetary allocations to cover the associated expenses.
