“Former US Senator Jeff Flake: Turkey’s Stronger Ties to Eastern Mediterranean and NATO Set to Boost Trade and Investment”

Turkey is becoming more connected to the Eastern Mediterranean, and its cooperation with the United States is strengthening, according to a report from Reuters in Ankara. Former US Senator Jeff Flake has stated that Turkey expanding its relationship with NATO and selling F-16 fighters to the US will lead to increased trade and investment, particularly in the Eastern Mediterranean.

“Our military cooperation has never been stronger, and we are in a favorable position,” said Flake, 61, during an interview at his residence in Ankara, as reported by a Reuters correspondent. Flake, who will be joining the US Embassy in Ankara in his new role, announced his support for Turkey’s expansion of NATO and its involvement in the Eastern Mediterranean, despite Russia’s close ties to Turkey in defense, trade, energy, and its intervention in Syria.

Flake emphasized that Turkey fully supports Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, while also noting Russia’s presence in the Black Sea and its increased capabilities in Crimea. He further added that the bilateral military exercises between the US and Turkey have been beneficial, and they will continue regardless of the US election results in November.
