Deputy Chairman Calls for Transparency in City’s Financial Flows Amid Controversy

Today, I received notice of a deadline until 16:00 to publish all financial flows that have a significant impact on the city’s finances. Vahagn Aleksanyan, the Deputy Chairman of the Public Council of the City, made this announcement on June 11, emphasizing the importance of transparency. He mentioned specific financial flows, such as the transportation fee, fines from traffic violations, parking fees, and driver fines. Aleksanyan stressed the need to divide these funds appropriately. He also addressed concerns about outside financing and urged the publication of financial flows to counter any doubts.

During his speech, Aleksanyan referred to an enterprise with a monopoly in the field that has received funding from external sources. He acknowledged that there were criticisms regarding the use of this funding and called for the publication of financial information to address these concerns. In response to a journalist’s comment, Aleksanyan expressed anger and warned about the consequences of voicing dissent. The President of the Armenian Association of Journalists intervened, urging Aleksanyan to choose his words carefully and avoid targeting and insulting individuals.

Aleksanyan continued his speech by questioning the depletion of the country’s resources and the responsibility of receiving funding. He emphasized the need to make changes and avoid causing a disaster in the world. Responding to this, the President of the Armenian Association of Journalists reiterated the importance of not making personal accusations and urged Aleksanyan to be accurate and accountable. Aleksanyan further discussed the responsibility of making necessary changes and ensuring that the image of Armenia is not tarnished by accusations of corruption.
