“CGMS Explores Monuments in Tavush Province: Assessing Conditions, Restoration Plans, and Challenges”

Officials from CGMS (Preservation of Cultural Heritage-Museums and Historical Territory Preservation NGO) recently visited various monuments in the Tavush province. Their visit aimed to assess the state of planned programs for monument preservation, renovation, restoration works, and address any relevant issues or problems discovered.

During the visit, one of the locations they explored was the Holy Trinity Church in Kirants village. It had served as a storage facility for many years. Discussions focused on the church’s current condition, work already completed, possibilities for restoration, and any related concerns.

The second monument on their itinerary was Surb Astvatsatsin Church in Voskepar village, dating back to the 7th century. Although the church underwent renovations between 1975 and 1977, the effects of weathering are evident. The exterior and interior paintings are still visible, but the main entrance and dome show signs of wear and tear.

The final stop was the Dilyajan Hovhannes Sharabeyan Folk Art Gallery. Restoration and construction work began in 2022 and is scheduled for completion in 2024. The team examined the current state of the gallery, reviewed completed work, and discussed future plans and the condition of previous restoration efforts.
