“Center-Right Dominates European Parliament Elections, Far-Right and Left-Wing Parties Secure Positions”

The elections of the European Parliament in the European Union have concluded, with election officials from the 27 countries choosing 720 representatives. The largest group based on the voting results is the center-right European People’s Party, but the left-wing group “Identity and Democracy” and the far-right group “Freedom and Direct Democracy” have also managed to secure positions. Social Democrats, Greens, and reformers have also gained seats.

In Germany, exit polls indicate a significant victory for the ruling coalition. The center-right CDU/CSU alliance holds the top spot by a large margin. The pro-European Union party “Alliance 90/The Greens,” despite support from young and urban voters and its alliance with French President Emmanuel Macron, is in second place. The far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party is in third place. The new party “The Left” has also gained seats. The Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), which has been in a coalition government with Chancellor Angela Merkel, lags behind.

In France, exit polls reveal a significant lead for right-wing parties. The ally of President Emmanuel Macron, the “La République En Marche!” party, despite its alliance with the Modem party, has managed to secure a significant number of seats. The far-right National Rally party, led by Marine Le Pen, is in second place. The new party “Europe Ecology – The Greens” has gained more seats than expected.

In Spain, the left-wing party “Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party” has made significant gains, surpassing the far-left parties. In Austria, exit polls indicate that the right-wing coalition “Freedom Party of Austria” is leading, closely followed by the new party “New Movement – Now,” which is part of the conservative People’s Party. In Latvia, the center-right coalition “For Development/For!” has secured around 12% of the votes, while the pro-Russian Harmony party, which has gained significant support from the Russian-speaking minority, is in second place. In Hungary, exit polls show that the ruling party “Fidesz” has won with 43% of the votes, while the opposition coalition “Momentum” party, which is against the ruling government of Viktor Orban, has received more than 30% of the votes.

Approximately 360 million voters had the right to participate in the elections. Voter turnout has been higher than in the previous European Parliament elections in most countries. The European Parliament is responsible for approving the composition of the European Commission, although it is established by the EU itself based on the principles of the member states. The European Parliament also handles legislative initiatives of the European Union.
