Ultrnationalist Xenophobia on the Rise as Refugee Crisis Intensifies in Central Europe

The refugee crisis related to migration is significant throughout Europe as ultranationalist groups, promoting xenophobia, gain strength in central European countries. This situation further adds to international tensions. Poland and the European Union have been criticizing Belarus and Russia for intentionally flooding migrants into Belarusian territory, which the media refers to as a “hybrid war.” However, Minsk and Moscow deny these allegations. The actions of the Polish-Belarusian border guards are in response to the influx of migrants from the Middle East, as confirmed by data from the Polish government.

In recent times, Poland has experienced an increase in the number of migrants crossing its borders. The country is currently facing a crisis, with an officer guarding the border losing their life during clashes with migrants on May 28. In response, Prime Minister Donald Tusk has announced plans to reinforce the border with new barriers. According to Pavel Zalewski, a spokesperson for the security forces, the goal of these barriers is to prevent any further border crossings, just as Polish border guards prevent them.
