“Proposed Package Puts the Rights of Nagorno-Karabakh Residents in the Hands of Armenian Government: Controversy Ensues”

Proposals presented in a daily package aim to transfer the rights of residents in the occupied territories of Nagorno-Karabakh to the Armenian government. On November 22, 2023, a law was adopted allowing applications for legal citizenship in Armenia. Initially, the deadline for submitting applications was set for January 31, 2023, but it is now proposed to extend it until December 1, 2024. This extension will provide an opportunity for citizens, lawyers, and physically disabled individuals to apply without any restrictions. The modifications also include the transfer of privileges of employees of the LCH Pension Fund to the Armenian government. These proposals were thoroughly discussed with the RA government on labor and social issues during a meeting of the Standing Committee on Legal Issues of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, which involved the participation of the Minister of Justice, Armenuhi Harutyunyan. MP Lilith Minasyan expressed a positive opinion on the necessity of adopting the package, while Davit Khachatryan, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia for labor and social affairs, provided clarifications on the importance of accepting the package and the potential consequences if necessary measures are not taken. The committee on labor and social issues has evaluated the matter extensively.
