“Gas Explosion Leaves Two in Critical Condition with Severe Burns: Lives Hang in the Balance”

Two individuals who sustained critical injuries in a gas explosion were found with severe burns on 60% of their bodies. The incident took place in the basement of a residential building yesterday. In addition to external injuries, they have also suffered burns to their respiratory system due to inhaling toxic fumes. Speaking at a press conference on June 7, Hovhannes Hovhannisyan, the director of the National Center for Burn and Plastic Surgery, stated that the victims are in a critical condition and their lives are at risk.

Due to their critical state, the injured individuals are currently in a coma. It is hoped that their vital functions will not be severely affected. Treating patients with such extensive burns requires significant effort, and saving them would be considered a success,” Hovhannisyan added.

Regarding the condition of four other injured individuals, Hovhannisyan stated that one patient is in a stable condition, receiving treatment and care in the ward. This patient has burns covering approximately 20-25% of their body surface area, along with moderate burns of the second degree on their feet. Hovhannisyan mentioned that certain procedures are being performed on this patient before allowing them to be visited by relatives.

When asked about the location of the burns on the patients’ bodies, Hovhannisyan explained that it depends on the circumstances and the position of the source of the explosion. Generally, the burns are found on the face and extremities.

Hovhannisyan emphasized the importance of monitoring the condition of burn patients on the fifth to seventh day and the seventh to tenth day, as these are critical periods when the patient’s temperature reaches its maximum value. During these days, a deterioration in the patient’s condition is expected, although the exact outcome cannot be predicted.

While acknowledging the potential for a deterioration in the patients’ condition, Hovhannisyan highlighted that medical professionals aim to achieve the best possible outcome for the individuals under their care. He also mentioned that among the injured, six are middle-aged individuals, including the wife of one of the patients in critical condition, who has been discharged from the hospital.
