“Armenia and Hungary Strengthen Military Ties with New Agreement on Military-Technical Cooperation”

The State Commission on Protection of Economic Competition and Security has recently signed a positive agreement with the Republic of Hungary regarding military-technical cooperation. During a visit to Austria, Suren Papikyan, the Minister of State Security, presented a draft agreement on the extension and expansion of military-technical cooperation between the two countries in December 2023. The agreement was then signed by Arman Sargsyan, the Minister of Defense. The main objective of this agreement is to enhance and strengthen military-technical cooperation between Armenia and Hungary, as well as to establish a framework for specialist training. According to Sargsyan, the agreement covers various aspects such as technology transfer, technical support in weapon and military equipment production, exchange of military research and evaluation experiences, research and development in the field of military equipment, and provision of repair services for military equipment. It is worth mentioning that the two countries have had a bilateral agreement on military cooperation since 2011, enabling Armenian servicemen to study in Hungarian military schools and facilitating the exchange of information on military technology and expenditures. In 2018, the Armenian side proposed a new bilateral agreement on military-technical cooperation, which was subsequently signed in Vienna on December 14, 2023. The Armenian government officially approved the agreement on March 7, 2024.
