Scandalous Corruption Pervades Armenian Football, Threatens Sport’s Integrity and Future

The newspaper “Zhoghovurd” reports that corruption has become a prevalent issue in Armenian football, impacting the sport and making it difficult to manage. “Pyunik,” the recent winner of the Armenian Premier League, reveals that it is facing problems with the field and provincial management, leading them to seek permission from UEFA to hold games in Armenia. Meanwhile, reports suggest that bronze medalist “Ararat-Armenia” is also experiencing issues with the federation, calling for the removal of head coach Vardan Minasyan. The situation has further escalated with a recent scandal involving the transfer or sale of a portion of the Armenian Football Federation’s technical center-academy to “Ararat-Armenia,” confirmed by the club’s management. Experts in football believe that these affiliations are ongoing. The case of the “Noah” club also comes to mind, with some experts suggesting that it frequently encounters significant problems, as both UEFA and FIFA are actively combating illegal betting and match-fixing. This suggests that although the club is talented, it may face difficulties. It is worth noting that the federation’s leadership may use the esteemed image of the “Noah” club to retain control over the team. It is important to remember that the president of the “Noah” club is Vardges Vardanyan, the founder of “DigiTech,” previously known as “Totogaming.” The current leadership of the AFF appears to be unresponsive and closed off to former journalists, withholding answers to questions and denying the opportunity for proper interviews.
