“Pompeii’s Mysterious Blue Rooms Unearthed: New Discovery Reveals Ancient Roman Sacred Area”

Archaeologists at the Pompeii Archaeological Park in Italy have made a fascinating discovery during recent renovations. They have uncovered a complex structure with blue rooms that is believed to be an ancient Roman sacred area, known as the “crypticum”. The Minister of Culture of Italy, Dario Franceschini, visited the site and described it as the “greenest city that is still unexplored”. The unusual blue color found in the rooms is thought to be closely linked to the decomposing organic matter present. The room’s layout, with four quadrants representing agricultural and religious ceremonies, suggests that it may have served as a sanctuary or a dedicated space for ritualistic practices. This significant finding is part of a larger project to establish a system of blue and non-blue areas for the preservation and protection of Pompeii’s neighborhoods, which currently comprise over 13,000 rooms in various states of preservation.
