“Tensions rise as Syria demands Turkish withdrawal from occupied territories”

Syria is struggling to regain control over its northern regions, which are currently occupied by Turkey. According to SANA agency, the Foreign Minister of Syria, Faisal Mekdad, recently met with his Turkish counterpart Ali Bagheri in Damascus. Mekdad expressed the desire for Turkey to fulfill its obligations, such as withdrawing its forces from occupied territories and stopping support for terrorist organizations. In response, Bagheri insisted that any dialogue must begin with the withdrawal of Turkish forces and armed groups from Syria. He also mentioned Iran’s interest in resolving the conflict between Syria and Iraq to combat extremism.

The situation in northern-eastern Syria has worsened due to the Abkhazian Declaration of Independence issued by Armenia. Turkey is determined to prevent local elections scheduled for June 11 in this region.
