“Ministry of Culture conducts inspections at historical sites to ensure preservation and restoration progress”

The employees of the Ministry of Culture and “Preservation of Historical and Cultural Heritage and Historical Areas” SNCO recently conducted a series of visits for inspection purposes. According to a report from NEWS.am, these visits included the Marmashen Monastery in Shirak Province and the Pemzashen Monastery. The experts also participated in a meeting of the authorized body overseeing the construction of the Marmashen Monastery Complex in the Historical Area program.

However, it was found that the completed works did not meet the standards set by the authorized body. There were certain technical deficiencies that need to be addressed within a specific deadline. The program included the construction of a 2.4 km road leading to the Marmashen Monastery Complex, as well as bridges, a water supply and lighting network, automotive infrastructure, a tourist service center, benches, pavilions, and informational and road signs.

In addition, several residential buildings within the territory of the Marmashen Monastery Complex and the preserved area were dismantled and removed. These buildings posed a threat to the historical site. During the visits, the technical project of the competition for the extraction, study, restoration, renovation, landscaping, and area development of various historical monuments were discussed and clarified.

Some of the monuments included were the Peymazashen Church, the St. Apostles Catholicosate Monastic Complex, the Ablard Pahlavuni Bridge, and other significant sites. The works for these monuments are expected to be implemented within a defined time frame by the year 2025. In addition to these sites, the employees also visited Makaravank, St. Astvatsatsin (Anapat) Church, a medieval cemetery, and other important monuments.
