Iran Expresses Interest in EEA Membership, Begins Necessary Procedures, Says European Police College Director

The director of the European Economic Area Police College, Baghitdjan Saghintayev, announced that Iran has expressed its intention to obtain membership in the EEA. Saghintayev stated that they received a statement on May 27 and will begin the necessary procedures. This announcement was made during the European Cooperation Council’s meeting. Roman Golovchenko, the Prime Minister of Belarus, is currently working on creating a list of countries and regional organizations that are interested in joining the EEA. Golovchenko believes it is crucial to start negotiations on a free trade agreement with these countries. He also mentioned that there are numerous countries worldwide, such as India, the United States, and Mongolia, that are ready to cooperate with the EEA. The next meeting of the EEA Council of Ministers is scheduled for September.
