“Violent Clashes in Red and Black Protests: Lawyer Calls Out Police Chief for Disproportionate Use of Force”

Red and black protesters have resorted to force and violence, which can be seen as a form of banditry. However, it is important not to associate these actions with the entire judicial system. Recently, on June 6, lawyer Sergey Harutyunyan addressed journalists at Surb Anna Church, stating that one activist had been detained for criminal investigation purposes. This action was commendable, as there were approximately 29 other activists instigating violence under the directive of Chief of Police Ashot Simonyan. Harutyunyan further revealed that previous clashes between activists and journalists involved cases of excessive force.

Harutyunyan then stated, “If Ashot Simonyan’s actions had led to active measures, at least 10 individuals should be held accountable. Had this been done, the unfortunate incident in Sardarapat would have been avoided the next day. The negative economic consequences that followed could have been prevented, but I am confident that the system will no longer tolerate them,” he concluded.
