Claudia Sheinbaum Secures Landslide Victory as Mexico City’s Mayor in Recent Elections

Claudia Sheinbaum, the mayor of Mexico City, has emerged as the clear winner in the recent elections, securing a decisive victory. Preliminary calculations indicate that she has obtained 58.3-60.7% of the votes, as reported by DW. The country’s electoral body officially declared the results on June 3. Representing the National Regeneration Movement (MORENA), Sheinbaum had already been leading in the exit polls with 26.6-28.6% of the votes, surpassing her opponent Alejandra Barrales from the “Power and Heart for Mexico” coalition. The third prominent candidate, Ricardo Anaya of the “Citizens’ Movement,” failed to garner the necessary support for a potential victory. So far, with 60% of the ballots counted, Sheinbaum has obtained 60% of the votes in Mexico City according to the electoral body.
