“Chess Legend Garry Kasparov Faces Investigation in Russia over Alleged Violations of Foreign Actors’ Rights”

According to TASS, investigators in Russia have the authority to question chess player Garry Kasparov regarding a criminal case relating to violations of the rights of foreign actors. The investigation’s spokesperson stated that Kasparov is being subjected to a criminal case under Article 330.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which deals with the violation of the rights of foreign actors in accordance with Russia’s international obligations. If the criminal case proceeds, Kasparov could potentially face detention for up to two months or be placed under house arrest. The representative of the authorities also has the right to conduct an interrogation with him. The Russian Justice Ministry has included Kasparov in the list of foreign actors until May 2022 due to perceived involvement in political activities. This list encompasses representatives from various foreign sources, including the United States, Ukraine, and the Human Rights Foundation (USA). Additionally, Russian courts have already issued multiple judgments against Kasparov for contravening the law on foreign actors.
