“Armenian Prime Minister Calls Out United States for Lack of Financial Support and Urges Restoration of Relations with Turkey and Azerbaijan”

Armenian Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinyan, has criticized the United States for not providing enough financial support to local organizations involved in implementing reforms in the country. He has emphasized the importance of restoring relations with Turkey and Azerbaijan and has called for progress in negotiations relating to the Tbilisi and Washington agreements. Pashinyan acknowledged that previous attempts at negotiations had failed but expressed hope for progress in the future. The current US Ambassador to Armenia, Robin S. Derganian, noted the significant influence of former ambassador John Heffern on the situation. Pashinyan emphasized the need for substantial improvements in US-Armenian relations, similar to the cooperation between the US and the Armenian diaspora.

The US has recently enacted a law that accepts foreign agents involved in anti-corruption activities in Armenia, following the lead of the EU and the Council of Europe. This law, known as the “Moscow methodological challenge,” was adopted in response to the “increased interest of Armenian public figures” in pursuing integration with the European Union. In the coming days, the US will announce entry restrictions for those involved in civil society organizations combating corruption, as well as their family members. These restrictions will apply not only to political operators supporting foreign agents but also to participants in rallies. Furthermore, Washington has decided to resume engagement with American-Armenian professional cooperation.
