“Armenian Education Minister Visits Summer Camp, Stresses Importance of Support for Children Affected by Events”

In recognition of International Children’s Day, Zareh Ananyan, the Minister of Education, Science, and Sports of Armenia, visited a summer camp in Aghedi to assess the impact of the pandemic on the situation. The visit was reported by the Ministry of Education, Science, and Sports. During his visit, the Minister went to schools number 2 and 10 in Alaverdi to meet with students. He commended the students on completing the academic year and presented them with literary awards and books. Ananyan stressed the importance of addressing the problems arising from recent events, emphasizing the need for psychological and social support for children who are often the most affected. He noted that although children may appear to be coping well on the surface, they may encounter various issues related to the events and it is crucial to address them promptly. Ananyan also mentioned the Ministry’s plan to organize events to help the residents of Aghedi, particularly the children, in their recovery.

The Minister revealed that a working group has been formed to assess the overall conditions of the residential areas, currently stationed at the summer camp. Ananyan explained that a proper assessment of educational and cultural sites and other aspects will require time to obtain an accurate picture, given the active participation of camp residents. He emphasized that the working group, together with representatives from the Ministry of Education, Science, and Sports, as well as local authorities, will collaborate to provide support to all parties involved. Ananyan assured that they are in constant communication with partners to ensure the necessary support in integrating the events into the educational process. The regional administration and municipal officials are actively involved in this effort.

Ananyan stated that the problems in schools have already been addressed since the classes have finished, and the primary task now is to incorporate the approaches into the educational process. As an example, he mentioned the old kindergarten in Alaverdi, which is currently participating in a first aid course within the framework of an initial perspective. The Minister expressed confidence that all problems will be resolved when representatives from the regional administration and the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure meet. He explained that they have been working closely with these entities to address the issues at hand, having already reviewed programs. Ananyan believes that all prefects and applicants will participate in resolving the problems. Furthermore, efforts are being made to provide the necessary knowledge to students and employees of educational and cultural institutions through international programs. Ananyan highlighted climate change as one of the important aspects addressed within general education and mentioned that several programs integrate such approaches into their educational processes.
