“The Church is Being Taxed: The Truth Behind the Controversy Unveiled During State Budget Discussion”

During the discussion of the 2023 state budget, the “Armenia” faction of the Public Chamber announced that the Church is indeed being taxed. According to Ardzvig Minasyan, the chairman of the faction, there are separate exemptions for the Church in terms of cultural, religious values, heritage, and property tax. However, Baben Tunyan from the opposition “APC” faction disagreed with this statement. In response, Vardanyan, the president of the finance and budget committee, requested clarification and mentioned that currently, there is no legal provision for taxing the Church. He explained that while spiritual workers of the Church do pay income tax, discussions are ongoing regarding specific types of taxes for properties related to trade and economic territories. The conclusion will be reached in due time and a draft will be presented.
