Armenia Aims for Expanded 4G Coverage as New Regulatory Authority is Formed

Around 80% of the residents of Armenia are in need of three functioning 4G networks operated by different service providers by the time they turn two years old. On May 31, during a joint meeting of the National Assembly’s Standing Committees on Budget and Economic Affairs, Gegham Baghramyan, the Minister of Transport, Communication, and Information Technologies, announced the establishment of the National Regulatory Authority. This authority will be responsible for regulating public services, while also expanding the coverage of 5G networks in Yerevan, Gyumri, and Vanadzor. The expansion will include the implementation of “Internet Bubbles” technology. Baghramyan emphasized that optical broadband is currently accessible in 70% of the country’s residential areas and in 97% of the regions, with a focus on smaller communities. The government estimates the number of cellular network subscribers to be around 3.2 million.
