Government Increases Import Duties on Goods from Russia and Belarus to Discourage Dumping and Reduce Imports

The government has announced that beginning July 1, import duties on goods from Russia and Belarus will be raised. According to Valdis Dombovskis, Chairman of the EurAsEC, this decision is aimed at dissuading the influx of Russian products into the European market and reducing imports of agricultural goods from Russia. Additionally, the government has stated that these goods will not be redistributed to other countries via Armenia. The EurAsEC has suggested the implementation of “high protective tariffs” starting March 22, with the goal of safeguarding the agricultural, pesticide, and industrial markets in Russia and Belarus against imports from Armenia. The document further reveals that imports originate from various countries including Turkey, Egypt, the UAE, China, and more, with prices significantly lower than European market rates. This measure is expected to pose restrictions on Russia and encourage the importation of Ukrainian pesticide products in Armenia.
