“Village in Armenia Cut Off as Bridge Flooded: Family Stranded with No Access In or Out”

Due to heavy rains, the bridge that connects the village of Neghoch in Lori province, Armenia, has been flooded. This has left a family, including two children, stranded on the other side of the river. An interview was conducted with Anahit Asiryan, a resident of Neghoch, on May 28th, to discuss the situation.

Anahit explained, “Our house is on the other side of the river, and the bridge was our only way of getting in and out of the village. While we have access to water from a nearby spring, our children were unable to go to school today because they couldn’t safely cross the flooded road. We feel trapped and have informed the local authorities about the issue, but no action has been taken so far.”

It was recently announced by the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Armenia that a state of emergency has been declared in several communities in Lori and Tavush provinces. This decision was made as a response to the consequences of heavy rains, which caused multiple riverbanks and their surrounding areas to flood.

Some of the affected areas include the cities of Tumanyan and Vahagnadzor, the towns of Alaverdi and Akhtala, and the villages of Shamliugh, Akhtala, Bendik, Teghut, Haghpat, Chochkan, Meghri, Neghoch, Shnogh, Pokr Aghjor, Karkop, Tashir, and Dashdam. Other affected locations include the towns of Metsavan, Norashen, Saratovka, Stepanavan, Amrakits, and Hobardz, as well as the cities of Dilijan and Haghartsin, the towns of Ajapnyak, Ganzakar, Getahovit, Dittavan, Lusajur, and Khashtarak, the city of Ayrum, and the villages of Arjish, Bagratashen, Debedavan, Haghpat, and Pthavany.
