“Church vs Government: Clash of Power and Authority Surfaces Amidst Political Tensions”

Nikol Pashinyan, in a statement to the media, emphasized that the church should refrain from intervening in the current situation, as the government is responsible for handling it. During a press briefing on May 28th at the Sardarapat Memorial Complex, Archbishop Miqayel Ajapahyan, the representative of the bishops, mentioned that they had previously met with Prime Minister Pashinyan, but no satisfactory resolution had been reached regarding the differences between them. He criticized the Prime Minister’s remarks, stating that they exhibited arrogance and disrespect, while also reflecting a desire to assert political authority. Additionally, he emphasized the strength of the church, not only within Armenia but also beyond its borders.

When asked about the origins of the conflicts, Srabastan explained that they arose from the other party’s side, which immediately launched attacks against the church. These attacks were primarily in the form of various questions aimed at undermining the church’s credibility. Furthermore, they even raised questions of intergovernmental significance and sought to shut down the media.
