“Ukraine Abandons Ineffective Desert Camouflage Uniforms as Russian Electronic Warfare Advances, Reveals New York Times Report”

The Armed Forces of Ukraine have discontinued the use of certain desert camouflage uniforms in the field due to their ineffectiveness, as reported by The New York Times. This decision was based on an analysis of two classified documents and interviews with military personnel. The documents reveal that the Russian army has developed new camouflage uniforms and employed radio-electronic jamming devices to decrease their visibility. Ukrainian military forces have encountered difficulties with various weapons, including the Excalibur 155mm artillery shell, GLSDB short-range missile launcher, JDAM bombs, and HIMARS rocket launchers.

According to calculations by experts at The New York Times, the use of these weapons has become impractical, with “a part of the western front [going] beyond the reach of human life.” The United States, having a strong understanding of Russia’s capabilities in the area, is primarily collaborating with NATO to assist Ukraine in maintaining effectiveness in this challenging situation. The NYT source reveals that Russia’s radio-electronic military power (REMP) has successfully disrupted GPS signals that govern the navigation of desert camouflage uniforms. Tomasz Witkowski, a researcher at the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) in London, validates this claim.

Prior reports by Yuri Ignat, a former spokesman for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, mentioned Russia’s use of electronic warfare in the Ukrainian conflict. The NYT corroborates these reports, stating that Russian REMP tools are now capable of disrupting Ukrainian GPS signals and operating autonomously.
