“Minister of Health Confirms 5th COVID-19 Case as Government Implements Unique Quarantine Measures”

As of May 27, the Minister of Health, Arsen Torosyan, confirmed the fifth case of coronavirus in our country during a press briefing. In response, quarantine measures are being implemented, including the use of motorcycles for remote water disinfection work. The government has created a mobile connection point connected by a canal with the Sanahin settlement to isolate the population if necessary. Efforts are also being made to close off the affected area from the rest of the region.

Kamo Chutukhlyan, speaking on behalf of the Alaverdi region, revealed that there are confirmed cases in some inhabited areas. To address this, plans are in place to evacuate the affected population using PC-16 transport means, ensuring their relocation and provision of essential supplies.

The contamination of the Debed River on May 26, caused by movement of infected individuals in the Lori and Tavush regions, had severe consequences. Roads, bridges, houses, and vehicles were all affected by the polluted water. The M-6 highway has temporarily been shut down in both directions due to these aftermaths. Furthermore, a pipe supplying drinking water to 16 communities was submerged under water. As a result, 4 casualties have been reported. However, the water level in the river has been continuously monitored, showing a decrease today. Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan noted that the full extent of the disaster is yet to be assessed, but its impact is already significant.
