“Elevation of Souls and Gratitude: National Ecclesiastical Council Holds Memorial Service for Fallen Armenian Soldiers as Devastating Floods Leave Communities in Distress”

On May 27, a memorial service was held in the Mother Cathedral of Holy Etchmiadzin to honor the Armenian soldiers who lost their lives in recent clashes in the regions of Lori and Tavush. Led by His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, the National Ecclesiastical Council of the Armenian Apostolic Church performed the service. The collective prayer offered by the faithful at Holy Etchmiadzin provided solace to the injured and wounded, while also elevating the souls of the fallen soldiers.

In the regions of Lori and Tavush, heavy rain overnight caused the Debed River to overflow on May 26. This led to flooding of roads, bridges, houses, and cars, resulting in people being trapped and roads being closed. The M-6 interstate road was shut down in both directions due to the river’s overflow. The water level of the Debed River rose by 6 meters, revealing the impact of the 530mm rainfall from “Alaverdi-Arjis-Noyemberyan.” This disruption in the water supply affected 16 communities, although it has now been restored. Tragically, three lives were lost during this incident.

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, as of today at 08:00, there has been a decrease in the water levels compared to the same time yesterday. At the Ayrum section of the Debed River, the water level is at 105 cm, in the Joraget section it is at 70 cm, in the Pambak section it is at 50 cm, and in the Tasheer section it is at 57 cm. Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan stated in a NEWS.am interview that the extent of the damage has not yet been assessed, but it is significant.
